The Standings get tighter after Anaheim III

If you thought the 2010 AMA Supercross season was wide open last week, this week tightened things up even more. Though the battling for position may not have been as intense as past races, the crowd was behind this race 100%. The crowd was there at Anaheim III for more the race. This marked the 1st ever Breast Cancer Awareness hosted by a Supercross Event. And the fans, riders, mechanics, vendors and more were there to show there support. With riders donning everything from pink boots, bikes and helmets the event was a tremendous success for Breast Cancer Awareness. Let’s hope we see more of these events being hosted by the sport we all love.

On to the races! The West Coast Lites were here racing their last race before we switch to the East Coast Lites. In Heat #1 it was Josh Hansen getting the holeshot and taking it straight to the podium, followed by Blake Wharton and Broc Tickle. Ryan Morias came back to give it a go, but the pain was too much for him and he had to exit the race. Hopefully he will be back soon.

In Heat #2 Jake Weimer took the holeshot, but the race was Red-Flagged shortly after it started as we may have seen the most horrific crash of the season. Max Anstie crashed on the face of a jump looping his bike into the air. Josh Clark was also injured in the crash and both were taken out in stretchers. Word today is that Anstie has a broken hip and will have surgery and Clark has 2 broken vertebrae in his back also requiring surgery. Our thoughts and prayers go out to both riders and their familes. Both are expected to make a full recovery. After the race had started again Weimer took the holeshot and the win followed by Wil Hahn and Trey Canard.

In the Lites Main it was Hahn taking the holeshot, but Canard took over shortly after getting out to a big lead and taking the win. Weimer crashed going into the corner putting him way back, but managed to finish 8th. Tickle took 2nd followed by Hahn. Weimer still holds the point standings at 135 with Canard at 121 and Hahn at 114 as the West Lites take a break and the East Lites kick off next weekend.

In Heat #1 of SX it was Ryan Dungey taking the holeshot and the win followed by Kevin Windham and Davi Millsaps.

Heat #2 Josh Hill took the holeshot and the win followed by Justin Brayton and Ryan Villopoto. Jason Lawrence returned to racing again since A1, but went down and had to settle for the LCQ. He didn’t have much success there either; as he crashed off the start and did not qualify for the Main.

In the Main Event Ryan Villopoto took the holeshot and managed to hold off Josh Hill who has become the 2nd place winner on the scene this year. Villopoto went on to take the win followed by Hill and Windham. Ryan Dungey slipped up and almost went down, but managed to finish 4th and salvage some points.

Dungey has not appeared to be as aggressive as usual and may be a bit banged up since his crash in San Francisco 2 weeks ago. Coupled with the pressure of being the top rookie in the spotlight this season maybe Dungey has buckled a bit under the pressure of winning every week? He seems to be thinking a bit too much as of late. None the less he is still the Points leader, but is now tied with Josh Hill and only 3 points ahead of Ryan Villopoto. This is one tight season to say the least!
