Round 9, 2009 AMA Motocross Nationals at the Unadilla Valley Sports Center
Chad Reed has been as hot as the summer weather in Texas over the past few races. Would his hot streak continue after a 2 week break in the schedule? Reed took the track at Unadilla Valley Sports Center in New Berlin, NY where he has historically not done well. If Andrew Short or anyone else for that matter wants to catch Reed in the Points Standings they better do so starting at Unadilla.

The first Moto of the day on a sweltering hot day in upstate New York saw Jeff Alessi took a page from his brother Mike by taking the holeshot. Not only did Alessi take the holeshot, he took the lead and ran with it for a few laps until he crashed out of the lead in the 3rd lap. That made room for David Millsaps and Chad Reed who were closing in on Alessi. Millsaps took over the lead, but Reed began to run him down. Reed took the lead from Millsaps in the 6th lap and held on to take the win in Moto #1. Thomas Hahn finished 2nd followed by Millsaps who took 3rd.

Moto # 2 showcased Andrew Short taking the holeshot and the lead for 4 laps. Reed quickly took the lead from Short in the 5th lap. Short finished 2nd, while Michael Byrne finished 3rd.

Much has been said about Reeds health this season, which Reed himself says that he had some excuses earlier this season, but felt they were legitimate excuses. He goes on to say that the hard work and support of his doctor, his wife and his sponsors have led him to back to feeling nearly 100%.
That’s bad news from the rest of the riders who had hoped of catching Reed in the points Standings. Reed now holds an 82 point lead over the rest of the pack going in to Round 10 Monster Energy Triple Crown Finale Presented by FMF at Budds Creek Motocross Park in Budds Creek, MD on August 22, 2009. Do you think Reed can maintain this pace and take the 2009 Motocross Championship?
