Round 4, 2009 AMA Motocross Nationals at the Monster Energy National
Ok, so by now you are aware that there is no James Stewart, no Ryan Villopoto and no Michael Alessi. This brings us to Round 4 of the AMA Motocross Nationals at High Point Raceway, which should be Chad Reed’s day to shine. Reed who has never won a 450 Class at Mt. Morris, PA would have to fend off Ivan Tedesco, Andrew Short and Josh Grant if he wanted a win this weekend.

Moto 1 saw Reed take his first holeshot of the season, but it was Short who had the 1st lap lead. Reed quickly put an end to that by taking the lead from Short in the lap 2. Short passed Reed again later in the race, but Reed returned the favor and passed Short again heading to the win in the 1st Moto. Short finished 2nd followed by Tedesco.
A scary moment for Josh Grant as with only a few laps left he crashed hard into a pickup truck parked on the side of the track. Luckily he wasn’t seriously injured and actually raced his way back into the Moto to finish 6th.
So would Reed be able to win the 2nd Moto of the day and take the total points lead from the injured Alessi? Moto 2 saw Tedesco take the holeshot and lead the race through 9 laps. Reed then passed Tedesco on lap 10 and never looked back as he took the win again. Short finished 2nd followed by Tedesco.

Again Josh Grant had some trouble and crashed again, but once again he got up uninjured passing numerous riders to finish 11th.

With Reed now atop the points over the injured Alessi heading into Round 5 for the Toyota National at Thunder Valley MX Park in Lakewood, CO on June 27, 2009 he just may be crowned the 2009 Champion “Grant”ed (no pun intended) the injury bug doesn’t bite him like Villopoto and Alessi.
