Round 10, 2009 AMA Motocross Nationals at Budds Creek

Coming in to the Monster Energy Triple Crown Finale Presented by FMF at Budds Creek Motocross Park, Chad Reed holds an 82 point lead over fellow riders. A good day today by Reed and a not so good day by Andrew Short would clinch the 2009 450cc Championship for Reed.

In Moto #1 Reed got off to a bad start, dropping out of the top ten riders to begin the race. As usual, when starting bad Reed picks through the pack like nobodies business and today was no exception. David Millsaps had the lead from the beginning of the race and Jeff Alessi was in 2nd, but not for long. Reed took over 2nd place from Alessi in the 7th lap, while Matthew Goerke was battling his way back from 7th place. It became quite the tight race as Reed nearly caught up to Millsaps on the last lap of the moto, but Millsaps managed to fight him off and take 1st place. Reed finished 2nd followed by Goerke who took 3rd.

Reed got off to a better start in Moto #2, but it was Ivan Tedesco who had the lead this time. Reed quickly put a stop to that by taking the lead from Tedesco in the 4th lap. Tedesco had trouble hanging on to 2nd as Thomas Hahn passed him in the 9th lap. Reed would finish 1st, followed by Hahn. Tedesco managed to hang on and finish 3rd.

By taking the overall win coupled with a poor performance by Short, Reed clinched the 2009 450cc Championship with 2 races left to go in the season. So through the battling of an illness and all, Reed managed to get through the season and take the championship after all.

Now the speculation begins. With Reed taking the championship, fans want to know if James Stewart will make an appearance at either Motocross 338 in Southwick, MA or Steel City Raceway in Delmont, PA. Maybe Stewart will make an appearance for the fans who were disappointed when he chose not to participate in the Outdoor Season this year. Or maybe he will just wait until the Supercross season next year. Would you like to see Stewart make an appearance at one of the remaining outdoor races? Or do you think he should play it safe and wait for next season? Submit your comments below.
